YCL Assignments

At our YCL and Camp Director retreat back in March, the YCL's from each ward were assigned a specific level of campers that they would be responsible for at camp.

Hope Mills 2: Level 1 Campers
Dunn/Fayetteville 4: Level 2 Campers
Hope Mills 1/Lumberton: Level 3 Campers
Fayetteville 1/Clinton: Level 4 Campers

The YCL's from each ward were also given the assignment to come up with water games for our field day, as well as events for our camp olympics. The YCL's and their ward camp directors are responsible for bringing the necessary supplies for these games. You should all have your assignments written down from that meeting.

Camp Olympics

Level 1 YCL's (HM2): Make cravat bandage and find two leaves; sort recycling
Level 2 YCL's (D/F4): Cloud formations; identify poisonous plants
Level 3 YCL's (HM1/L): Building different types of fires; CPR steps
Level 4 YCL's (F1/C): Heimlich maneuver; types of emergency carrying

Water Activities

Level 1 YCL's (HM2): Throwing sponges; Pass sponges overhead
Level 2 YCL's (D/F4): Water balloon toss; Overhead cup pass
Level 3 YCL's (HM1/L): Grab marbles with toes out of kiddie pool; sponge relay
Level 4 YCL's (F1/C): Pass water balloons with neck; water gun questioning

The YCL's and camp directors from each ward are responsible for bringing any necessary supplies for their specific water games and olympic events!

Please let us know if you have any questions! We are excited to be giving the Youth Camp Leaders more responsibilities this year and have no doubt that they will rise to the occasion and be wonderful leaders for the younger girls.

Leaders: Time to Think About Planning Evening Campsite Devotionals!

Attention Leaders:

These are the themes for each day.  In the evening, as you return to your campsite, you will be asked to have a ward devotional with your girls.

Tuesday:  Stand for Something (or You'll Fall for Anything)- Ward Shoe
The first night, we would love for you to focus on your ward 'shoe'.  How will remembering your ward shoe and motto help the girls through their lives?  The devotional shouldn't be much longer than 5-10 min, but it should bring the spirit and allow you the opportunity to share your testimony with the girls.  If you would like to include an activity or something as well to help it sink in, please do.  This is your time to connect with your girls and set the spirit for camp.

**Please remember that the YCLs will have numerous opportunities to teach and share with the girls throughout camp- the evening devotionals are your chance to do so as their young women's leader.

Wednesday:  Faith in Every Footstep
We will do a spiritual 'Walk with the Savior" this evening.  You will remain with your youth so you can share with them in learning of and appreciating different moments in the Savior's life that we can turn to as an example of walking with faith.  You may want to choose a story from His life or a virtue He exemplified to share with your girls.  Follow the spirit in choosing what your young women would most benefit from.

Thursday:  Lift Where You Stand*  (Bishops share evening devotional with ward)
This day you will not need to prepare a devotional, as the Bishop will be sharing a devotional with the girls.  You may want to have a game or activity prepared, but determine with the bishop what he would prefer.

Friday:  The Worth of 'Soles' is Great in the Sight of God (YW leaders share testimonies with girls)
On this, the last night of camp, we will be holding the young women testimony meeting just before the ward devotional.  We ask that the leaders use the time in their wards after the camp testimony meeting to share their testimonies with the girls.  Make sure they know where YOU stand when it comes to the gospel.

I hope this offers some guidance- in conclusion, you will only need to prepare something for Tuesday and Wednesday night.  Thursday is the bishop's night, Friday is your testimony.

If you have any questions, let us know!!

One Month Until Camp!

Trek is over and it's time to start preparing for camp!!  As your focus moves to camp, you may be stretching your brain to remember what we talked about in those meetings held so many months ago.  Or perhaps you are newly called to serve in young women and haven't yet been given the information you need.  Or perhaps you just moved in and are thrilled to find out what excitement and friendships await you this summer.  Whatever the case, we are excited to share all we can so you will be as prepared as possible when the long awaited July 16 arrives.

For the basics, scroll through old posts

For updated info such as the week's schedule and tentative menu, make sure to check the "Calendar" page.

For updated YCL and camp director information, check the "YCL/Leader" page.  Continue to check back over the next couple of weeks as we complete adding registration forms to our lists.

For directions to camp, click on the "Directions" tab above.

We will continue to be in contact, but for now your main job is this:

1.  Remind your bishop that he is invited to attend our Bishop's Luau evening on Thursday, July 18 at 6:45pm (or earlier if he's available).  He is invited to share a message about our topic, "Stand in Holy Places" with your ward in your campsite after dinner as well as bring a snack to share if he would like.

2.  Be prepared to possibly borrow a tent or two to house some or all of your girls should there not be enough beds made for the cabins.  We will know more this week as to how many beds are available, but since trek just completed, I'm sure you have a better idea as to who has tents that would be willing to share.  Contact them and determine if they would be willing to share should we need them to if we get closer to camp and find that enough beds and cabins have not been completed to sleep everyone.  Priesthood planning to stay overnight will need a tent for sure.

YCL Overnight

We are so excited for our YCL Overnight on March 8-9th! Here are some of the details you will want to pass along to your Youth Camp Leaders (ages 16-17):

1. Please plan to arrive at the Eagles Nest (1074 Eagle's Nest Road, Dudley NC 28333) on Friday between 5:00 and 6:00 p.m. You are responsible for transporting your Young Women, and will need one leader for each seven girls who can spend the night. We will eat dinner at 6:00 p.m., and will be practicing some campfire cooking techniques. YCL's will have their meeting immediately after.

2. Each young woman needs to bring a signed permission slip for this activity. Permission slips can be found on lds.orghttp://www.lds.org/pa/images/ym/parentalpermission_medicalrelease.pdf. The activity is "YCL Overnight." We will be happy to collect any of your ward's Camp Registration forms and adult leader t-shirt money at this time (remember--we need all your registration forms by April 1!).

3. All campers will need to bring a sleeping bag or bedding, as well as clothes and any necessary personal items. We will be staying in cabins. Some of the bunks have mattresses, some do not, so you may want an inflatable mattress or foam pad. Tents are also welcome! Remember, cell phones and other electronics are not allowed!

4. Level leaders and Camp Directors are invited to attend a meeting with the YCL's Saturday morning. If they don't come up Friday night, we ask that they be there by 10:00 a.m. Saturday. We should be finished with all activities and have you on your way home before noon.

5. Please contact Amy Burnett (801-547-7172 or amyvhanson@gmail.com) as soon as you know how many leaders and young women will be attending from your ward. Additionally, please let us know the names of any YCL's from your ward who will be attending camp (even if they don't attend the overnight) so we can make sure they get assignments as well.

Please feel free to contact either Cari Shields or Amy Burnett with any additional questions you may have.
Thank you so much for all you do for the Young Women of our stake! We're excited to share this camping adventure with you!

A Picture's Worth 1000 Words

The view of the Main Lodge from the lake:

The bunk beds located inside the cabins.  Notice the lack of mattress.  :-)
If you'd like a cushier bed, bring a blow up mattress!
(You can typically find a cheap blow up pool mattress when stores start stocking swimming items.)
